On the afternoon of Sunday, September 8, 1929, a group of six ministers and five ordained deacons from area churches met with a group of concerned citizens of Groves. They met in a newly constructed church building for the purpose of formally organizing a Baptist Church. It was voted that the church would be called Groves First Baptist Church and the forty-eight people who had attended the morning service would constitute the charter members.

The first Pastor, Rev. Marvin Smith, was called in November of 1929 and the church has had eleven Pastors since that time.

The church built a new sanctuary in 1938 and worshipped there until 1955 when a new sanctuary was constructed. The congregation continues to worship in that building today.

First Groves has gone through many changes and several building renovations over the years but has always had a rich heritage of evangelism and continues to grow in and from that heritage led by that first called Pastor through it's present Pastor, Dr. Joe Worley.
